Lori Powell, Chef de Mission of the Cayman Islands squad at the London Olympics – one of the smallest at the Games – is pleased that the team has again raised the country’s profile.
“I’ve enjoyed the Olympics very much,” Powell said. “The highlight has been our team. We had an amazing experience in the swimming, Shaune and Brett Fraser in the semi-finals. And then we went on to the athletics and had Kemar Hyman in the 100 metres semi-final. We were definitely on a high from those two achievements.”
Besides savouring the Cayman team competing, Powell had the chance to witness the human torpedo sign off in style. “It was great to see Michael Phelps creating history and then I got the opportunity to watch some track. We still have some more track to go and it’s been so exciting watching Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake and the whole competition between them.”
